Theatre Classes

Technical Theatre I

  • Best for: The student seeking hands-on experience in all behind-the-scenes areas of theatre (1 Credit)
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit
  • Description: Technical Theatre I gives students an introductory look into areas of study such as scenic construction, costume construction, props, hair and makeup, lighting, sound, and more! Additionally, students will explore theatrical design. This course serves as a Fine Arts credit. Open to all grade levels.

Technical Theatre II, III, IV

  • Best for: The student who wants to continue their technical theatre training and further develop their skills
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit or 1 PE Credit
  • Description: Students will work to help produce items such as set pieces, costumes, props, and more for KHS Theatre season productions. Students will further their work as a theatrical designer by participating in the annual UIL Theatrical Design prompt. This course serves as a Fine Arts credit or as a PE credit.

Unified Theatre Arts

  • Best for: Student leaders who enjoy enriching others
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit
  • Description: This course can be taken for a Fine Arts credit or as an elective. Students will learn the basics of acting on the stage and will perform scenes and participate in class projects, aiming to create leaders in students of all abilities. Students will participate in a Spring Kids Musical for their final project.

Theatre Arts I

  • Best for: Students looking to fulfill their Fine Arts credit and enjoy working in groups
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit
  • Description: This introductory course is a great option for all students and will fulfill the required Fine Arts credit. This course offers acting and performance based curriculum. Students will learn the basics of acting on the stage and will perform scenes and participate in class projects. 

Theatre Arts II, III, IV

  • These are upper level courses available once Theatre Arts I has been completed. These courses cover various acting techniques, theatrical critiques and evaluations, playwriting, children’s theatre, make-up, costuming, and public performances. 
  • Best for: Students who want to pursue higher-level acting technique and gain additional Fine Arts credits
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit
  • Description: These upper-level courses are options for students pursuing more advanced skills in Theatre.These courses offer advanced acting, including movement and voice work and performance-based curriculum. Students will enhance their acting skills on the stage and will perform and create scenes and participate in larger class projects.

Freshman Select

  • Best for: Incoming freshmen who have taken theatre in middle school and are planning to continue theatre in high school
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit
  • Description: This course is for incoming freshmen who were active in their theatre departments in middle school. These courses are production based. Students will participate in the production process for shows and events throughout the year, continuing development in acting skills, as well as other production skills. This is an auditioned, production-based course.

Theatre Production I, II, III

  • Best for: The sophomore, junior, or senior student who wants to continue their acting training and production experience throughout high school
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit
  • Description: These courses are production based. Students will participate in the production process for shows and events throughout the year, continuing development in acting skills, as well as other production skills. This is an auditioned, production-based course.

Musical Theatre I

  • Best for: The sophomore, junior, or senior student who wants to continue their musical theatre training and production experience throughout high school. 
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit
  • Description: Musical Theatre I students will continue their training in song, dance, and musical theatre acting. This is an auditioned, production-based course.

Musical Theatre II, III

  • Best for: The sophomore, junior, or senior student who wants to continue their musical theatre training and production experience throughout high school
  • Credit Available: 1 Fine Arts Credit or 1 PE Credit
  • Description: Musical Theatre I students will continue their training in song, dance, and musical theatre acting. This is an auditioned, production-based course.
