Scholarships

Each year, the KHS Theatre Booster Club awards scholarships and Summer Enrichment Grants (SEG) to seniors and underclassmen looking to further their theatre education during the off-season.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Senior scholarships and Summer Enrichment Grants (SEG) will be awarded annually to active KHS theatre students.
  2. Selection of recipients will be based on a point system that covers GPA, involvement in KHS and community theatre programs, community service, booster club involvement, and an essay.
  3. Maximum points available to receive are 50 with the essay counting for 20% of the total points.
  4. The amount of scholarships and grants awarded will be determined annually by the KHS Theatre Booster Club based on fundraising efforts.
  5. All decisions made by the Scholarship Review Committees are final.

Who Is Eligible?

ALL applying students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above.

SENIOR APPLICANTS

Any senior applicant, or their parent or guardian, must be a member of the KHS Theatre Booster Club for at least two years.

Any transfer students must provide verification from their previous school that their parent or guardian was involved in the theatre booster organization.

Any senior applicant must plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited college/university, trade school, or military academy.

SEG APPLICANTS

It is highly recommended that a parent or guardian of a SEG applicant be a member of the KHS Theatre Booster Club.

Any SEG applicant must plan to enroll in a theatre or fine arts camp or enrichment program (i.e., dance or music lessons).

SCREENING and SELECTION PROCESS

  1. There will be two separate Scholarship Review Committees—one for Seniors and one for SEGs. Each will hold 3-5 judges. Committee members may include members, teachers, and/or campus administrators.
  2. No parent/guardian of an applicant can serve on a committee in which his/her child is being considered for a scholarship or SEG.
  3. Each committee will include one KHS theatre director as an ex-officio, non-voting member as a source for additional information to the committee.
  4. All incomplete application packets will be returned to the applicant.
  5. Complete application packets will be presented to the appropriate committee with names omitted for screening and evaluation.
  6. Applicants will be ranked and recipients selected based on the total points received from the points rubric.
  7. Applicant ranking and recommended awards will be submitted to the KHS Theatre Booster Club for approval.
  8. Recipients of a SEG will be notified in March in time to sign up for summer programs, and scholarship recipients will be notified in writing and announced at the annual theatre banquet.

Applications typically become available in December and are due February 1.
