FAQS

Quick Answers

Have Questions?

How many shows per year does the theatre department put on?

Our yearly production calendar traditionally includes a fall play in September, a fall musical in November, a winter play in February, and our UIL One Act Play that competes in March. Additionally, our production classes produce class plays throughout the year.

Where is the theatre located?

Our shows are performed in our Fine Arts Center (FAC) at our home campus at 601 N. Pate Orr Rd. in Keller, TX. To access the FAC on show nights, please enter through Door 2. Other points of entry will usually be locked or lead you to other campus activities, thereby delaying your arrival time to the theatre.

Are all shows recorded?

No. Only the fall musical is professionally recorded as it is the only show where all principal characters use microphones. Without the use of microphones, the sound is not adequate for high-quality recording purposes.

How do I buy tickets for a show?

We use a software program called SimpleTix for our ticket sales. All seats are reserved and require purchase online in advance or at the door on show night. Click on the link here to purchase tickets to one of our upcoming shows.

IMPORTANT NOTES: (1) The fall musical is our highest attended show and tends to sell out; it is in your best interest to buy your tickets early and online before arrival. (2) Do not purchase tickets through any other venue than SimpleTix. Only SimpleTix tickets will be honored at the door. (3) Switching seats upon arrival is not permitted, and you will be asked to move to your purchased seat.

I have a promo code for tickets. How do I use it?

Simply visit our SimpleTix site and select the show you wish to see and the seat(s) you want. On the check-out page, there will be a box for you to enter your promo code.

I joined the Booster Club and have ticket benefits. How do I use them?

When you sign up to be a member of our Booster Club, you receive a welcome letter via e-mail that includes a promo code to use for free tickets to any Keller High School Theatre production for that season. To use that code, please see the question above. If you do not receive your promo code after joining Boosters, please email tix@kellertheatre.org.

I am a KISD employee; do I receive a discount on tickets?

Yes! All Keller ISD employees are eligible for two free tickets to each show that we produce. Any additional tickets must be purchased at regular price. The employee discount code necessary to secure your free tickets becomes available in the District Wide Wednesday (DWW) newsletter approximately two weeks in advance of each production. If you do not find this promo code in the DWW newsletter, please email tix@kellertheatre.org from your KISD e-mail account.

I am a student; do I receive a discount on tickets?

Yes! All students are eligible for one discounted ticket to each show that we produce. The student discount code necessary to secure your discounted rate is shared by the KHS teachers. For the fall musical, the student discount code is also distributed through flyers and bookmarks at other campuses.

I am a senior citizen; do I receive a discount on tickets?

Unfortunately, we do not offer any discounts on tickets for senior citizens.

Can my child audition to be in a show or work as crew if not enrolled in a theatre class?

Yes! Any student can audition for any of the Keller theatre productions. This includes freshmen! The directors do not pre-cast any shows; they cast based on who is best for the roles based on their auditions. All information regarding auditions can be found on our Audition / Tech Crew Info page.

What are the production fees used for?

Each mainstage production has a production fee associated with it for all students involved and it varies for actors and crew members. Production fees cover the costumes and show shirts. Our directors always shop around, and every effort is made to keep the cost down as much as possible. This fee is not set until after the production has been cast to make sure no student is discouraged from participating based on a production fee. If a student is unable to pay a production fee, payment plans and scholarships are available upon conversation with the director of the production.

I purchased theatre merchandise through Square. How do I get it?

All merchandise items are only available for pick-up at the merchandise table before or after show performances unless specific instructions are given on the Band App. While Square lists a physical address during check-out, this is for Square billing purposes ONLY and not to be confused with a pick-up location. It is acceptable for either students or parents to pick up the merchandise items at the merchandise table as long as the name under which the order was placed can be verified. You can also pick up merchandise for past shows at any current show during that season.

What are Parent Work Days?

Our Front of House is AWARD-WINNING! We need a lot of help before shows to get the lobby decorated and ready for attendees. So when the call comes out for Parent Work Days, please consider helping. The great news is you don’t need to be a Booster member and we don’t need you for the entire day (unless you want to)! Simply sign up for any amount of time you can give. Our Boosters will give you the necessary supplies and put you to work on a task you are comfortable with to lighten the load on everyone’s plate. Check the Calendar for Parent Work Days around upcoming show dates and join the fun!

Are thespians the same thing as theatre students?

No. Thespians are a group of students within a completely separate organization from theatre students; however, theatre students are allowed to join Thespians if they choose! The KHS Thespian Troupe has certain requirements that must be met before a student can be inducted into this society. All information regarding this society can be found on our Thespian Troupe page.

Is being a Thespian a requirement to letter in theatre?

No. However, students need to complete the Thespian Point Form to track their production history toward the 20 points needed to letter. All qualifications on lettering can be found on our Lettering in Theatre page.

Does my senior student need to be a Thespian to receive graduation regalia?

No. However, seniors need to use the Senior Regalia Checklist to calculate points that determine what types of regalia they qualify for.

Who can attend the annual theatre banquet?

The theatre banquet is open to any student who has been involved with a show during the school year (cast, crew, volunteer). Any students who have taken theatre classes during the year may also attend the banquet. Additionally, booster members are welcome to attend.

What are the Kelley Awards?

The Kelley Awards is a KISD contest that occurs annually in late January between all four high schools and their fall musicals. This semi-formal to formal, VIP experience is modeled after the Tony Awards, complete with amazing appetizers, photo ops, and a pre-show mingling hour with district staff, fellow Thespians, and other theatre enthusiasts. It is a highly-anticipated event each year!

Who can attend the Kelley Awards?

Anyone interested in attending the Kelley Awards is welcome to purchase a ticket! They will go on sale in December through the KISD Webstore.
